The event's purpose is to promote family involvement in physical activity. Local organizations throughout the country will host family-related health and fitness events at schools, park districts, hospitals, YMCAs/YWCAs, malls, health clubs and other community locations.

National Hunting and Fishing Day


On May 2, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed the first National Hunting and Fishing Day proclamation, declaring, "I urge all our citizens to join with outdoor sportsmen in the wise use of our natural resources and in insuring their proper management for the benefit of future generations." National Hunting and Fishing Day is celebrated on the fourth Saturday of every September.
