International Children's Book Day

Since 1967, on or around Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, April 2, International Children's Book Day is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books. The yearly event, sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People, includes writing competitions, book awards, and events with authors of children's literature.

World Autism Awareness Day

The United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day to highlight the need to help improve the quality of life of those with autism so they can lead full and meaningful lives as an integral part of society. Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disability characterized, in varying degrees, by persistent difficulties in social communication and restrictive and repetitive behaviors, interests, or activities.

National Ferret Day

National Ferret Day is a day to educate about this lively and intelligent companion animal. This day is also a time to focus on such ferret issues as welfare, care, nutrition and responsible ownership.

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day

A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or PB&J, is a popular sandwich in the United States that includes a layer of peanut butter and either jelly or jam on slices of bread.

National Reconciliation Day

Since 1989, newspaper columnist Ann Landers has promoted April 2 as Reconciliation Day, encouraging readers to repair their broken relationships.
