National Kindness Matters Day
National Kindness Matters Day is observed on October 13 each year by having people perform 13 acts of kindness in their communities. It was started by Kindness Matters to commemorate the death of 13 year old Peyton James, who died by bullycide in 2014. The goal is to encourage people to change how they interact with each other and to fill the world with intentional acts of kindness. You can find out more about Kindness Matters at www.kindness-matters.org
International Day for Disaster Reduction
"International Day for Disaster Reduction, held every 13 October, celebrates how people and communities around the world are reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness about the importance of reining in the risks that they face". Visit UNISDR.org for more information
National No Bra Day
National No Bra Day is meant to promote breast cancer awareness and to help raise money for research. Many women who have survived breast cancer are unable to go without a bra as they need it to hold their prosthesis after surgery. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and National No Bra Day should serve as a reminder for all women to be screened for breast cancer.
National Train Your Brain Day
This day was created to encourage everyone to expand and exercise their brain and use more of its potential capacity. There are many different ways to train your mind and improve your cognitive skills such as reading, word puzzles, number games, brain teasers, trivia games, riddles and word games.
