International Day of Family Remittances
The International Day of Family Remittances, celebrated on June 16, is aimed at recognizing the significant financial contribution migrant workers make to the wellbeing of their families back home and to the sustainable development of their countries of origin. It is also aimed at encouraging the public and private sectors, as well as the civil society, to do more and collaborate to maximize the impact of these funds in the developing world.
On June 19, 1910, the governor of the U.S. state of Washington proclaimed the nation's first "Father's Day." In 1972, the day became a nationwide holiday in the United States. Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.
