World Press Freedom Day
World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the United Nations Assembly in December 1993. May 3 is the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek, a statement of free press principles put together by African newspaper journalists in 1991. "It is an opportunity to: celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom; assess the state of press freedom throughout the world; defend the media from attacks on their independence; and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty."
National Space Day
National Space Day is dedicated to the extraordinary achievements, benefits and opportunities in the exploration and use of space. The goal of National Space Day, observed annually on the first Friday in May, is to promote math, science, technology and engineering education in young people to inspire them to pursue a career in space-related jobs.
