Peace Officers Memorial Day
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. During this week we pay tribute to the local, state, and Federal peace officers who have died in the line of duty. Law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in special memorial service.
International Day of Families
The International Day of Families is observed on the May 15 of every year. The Day was proclaimed by the United Nations in 1993 reflects the importance the international community attaches to families. The International Day provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families.
