Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is an American federal holiday celebrating Dr. King's immeasurable contribution to the United States, and to humankind. Dr. King's birthday is on January 15. Celebrated on the third Monday of January, the King Holiday is a time when the nation pauses to remember Dr. King's life and work, but also to honor his legacy by making the holiday a day of community service, "a day on, not a day off".

Squirrel Appreciation Day

January 21 is Squirrel Appreciation Day, founded in 2001 by Christy Hargrove, a wildlife rehabilitator at the the Western North Carolina Nature Center.

National Hugging Day

Created by Kevin Zaborney, National Hugging Day is an annual event dedicated to hugging. It occurs annually on January 21 as it fell between the Christmas and New Year's Holidays and Valentine's Day. While some encourage hugging everyone, National Hugging Day always suggests asking first.

National Granola Bar Day

Granola is a breakfast food and snack food consisting of rolled oats, nuts, honey or other sweeteners such as brown sugar, and sometimes puffed rice, that is usually baked until it is crisp, toasted and golden brown.
