National HIV Vaccine Awareness Day
HIV Vaccine Awareness Day is observed annually on May 18th. This observance provides an opportunity to recognize and thank the many volunteers, community members, health professionals, and scientists who are working together to find a safe and effective preventive HIV vaccine. It is also a day to educate communities across the nation about the importance of preventive HIV vaccine research.
International Museum Day
Every year since 1977 International Museum Day is organized worldwide around May 18. This day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society. According to the International Council of Museums, a museum is a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society and its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment for the purposes of education, study and enjoyment.
National Defense Transportation Day
National Defense Transportation Day, which occurs annually on the third Friday of May, recognizes the contributions of people who work in the transportation industry and who contribute to the nation's well-being and defense. It is part of National Transportation Week.
