National Fire Pup Day
This day is used to honor our four legged firefighters. Firehouse dogs, typically Dalmatians, are used more as mascots today. Before automobiles, these dogs would run alongside horse drawn wagons carrying the firefighters and stand guard while they fought to extinguish the inferno.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
"October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same". National Apple Month
"National Apple Month's mission is to increase apple industry sales, and to enhance consumer awareness and usage of apples and apple products. Its goal is to increase apple industry sales through a fall retail display contest, foodservice promotional contest, to recognize outstanding retailers for their apple merchandising, and to develop strong relations with retail, foodservice and apple industry members". National Crime Prevention Month
"In 1984, the National Crime Prevention Council designated October Crime Prevention Month. Every year since then, government agencies, civic groups, schools, businesses, and youth organizations have reached out to educate the public, showcase their accomplishments, and explore new partnerships during this special month". National Bullying Prevention Month
"National Bullying Prevention Month is a nationwide campaign founded in 2006 by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center. National Child Health Day
Enacted by Congress in 1928, Child Health Day is observed on the first Monday in October. On this day, the president invites all agencies and organizations interested in child welfare to unite on Child Health Day in observing exercises that will make the people of the United States aware of the fundamental necessity of a year-round program to protect and develop the health of the children of the United States.
